Months before Intel officially introduced its Lynnfield processors and matching P55 chipset, several motherboards based on the chipset already passed by. Now that the platform has finally been released, manufacturer Intel also showed its own P55 motherboards. The company will initially release four motherboards: the Intel DP55KG and DP55SB, which Intel positions in the Extreme series, and the DP55WG and DP55WB, in the Media series.

Like the DP55KG and DP55SB, the differences between the DP55WG and DP55WB are mostly limited to the board's dimensions; respectively ATX and Micro-ATX. Naturally, all four boards are equipped with the LGA1156 socket. Four memory slots offer room for up to 16 GB of DDR3-1600, with the exception of the DP55WB, which only supports DDR3 of up to 1333 MHz. Three of the boards are equipped with a Realtek ALC889 chip, capable of 7.1 audio. An Intel 82578DC Gigabit networkcontroller has been integrated in all four models.

There are also plenty of USB2.0-connectors, at least six SATA 3.0 Gbit/s connectors and FireWire400 present. Again, apart from the DP55WG, each motherboard is equipped with two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, which allow SLI or CrossFireX configurations in an x8/x8 mode. Apart from at least one PCI-Express x1 slot, each of the boards also feature a regular PCI-slot. This time around however, the DP55SB Extreme motherboard is the exception for not sporting the PCI-slot.
