During the IFA, Philips presented the latest version of its Aurea television. The 2009 model features 250 LED's in the screen's border. In an attempt to increase image quality even further, Philips now also uses LED's for the screen's backlighting. Thanks to this technology, the new Aurea is about 40% more efficient than its predecessor. The new Perfect Pixel HD engine contains a technology called 17-bit Color Booster, allowing the screen to process up to 2,2 trillion colors.

The TV does not have any visible buttons: al controls have been integrated into a touch-sensitive strip on the edge of the screen. The remote control has also been revised; it now sports a slider to hide the less-used buttons.

The new Aurea has an integrated digital cable tuner and naturally Philips' own NetTV functionality is also supported.
