Samsung's line of netbooks has proven to be very successful; the NC10 has single-handedly gathered about 25% of the market shares due to a remarkably lengthy battery life and a complete feature set. That initial notebook has been followed up by several other models, with the recently introduced N510 as the current flagship. The N510 has a 1366x768 pixel resolution and uses nVidia's Ion chipset, making it hard to recognize the device as a real netbook.

As of yet, Samsung has found out that not everyone is as happy with the netbooks; whichever way you bring it, the performance of the Atom processor are just insufficient when it comes to anything other than simple internetting or text editing. Together with Intel, the company has developed a new category between the netbooks and notebooks. After Samsung's netbooks with Ultra Low Voltage procssors (SU3500, SU9400 and soon other versions), the company now introduces a new X-series with the CPUs.

The new X-series by Samsung.

The new X-series is to combine functionality with a comfortable screen dimension and weight. Initially, three models will be released; the X120, X420 and X520, equipped with screen diagonals of respectively 11,6 inch, 14 inch and 15 inch. The first model will weigh about 1,3 kilo, the 14 inch version 1,76 kg and lastly, the 15 inch model is to weigh just 2 kg. Samsung claims a battery life of up to 9 hours with average use and 6 hours when watching video. Add to that the sleek glossy design with a scratch-resistant lid, and it's obvious that we're interested to see how the new notebooks perform.

The new X420 weighs only 1,76 kg, while featuring a 14 inch screen!
