The rise of LED-technology in LCD monitors seems unstoppable, especially now that the screens can be produced more economically and at higher yields. In comparison to the classic CCFL backlight, the LEDs are a lot more efficient and allow for thinner panels. BenQ has announced two new widescreen TFT screens using an LED-backlight. The first model is the G922HDL, an 18.5" monitor with the HD Ready resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
It's bigger brother, the G920WL, sports a 19" panel. This model has a slightly higher resolution of 1440x800 pixels. BenQ specifies a 5 ms response time for both screens, as well as a 250 cd/m2 brightness. Thanks to the LED technology, the contrast is claimed to be 5.000.000:1 dynamically and 1.000:1 normally. Both monitors have a black glossy finish and a controlbar on the right bottom of the panel.
Thew new G922HDL and G920WL are TCO 5.0-certified, which means they should be relatively environment friendly. BenQ will initially release these models in Europe and Asia. Pricetags have not yet been mentioned.
