AMD will launch a faster version of its Phenom II X3 processor, featuring a clock frequency of 3 GHz. This CPU will be branded X3 740 and will be based on the quadcore 'Deneb' chip. It's expected that the processor will be sold as a Black Edition, which means it has an unlocked multiplier. Because the chip is based on a quadcore, it might also be possible to unlock the fourth core using ACC in the BIOS.
The new Phenom II X3 has the full 6 MB shared L3 cache, with an added 512KB L2 cache for each active core. Though prices have not yet been mentioned, it's obvious that the chip will be positioned between the existing Phenom II X3 720 and the faster Phenom II X4 models. The Phenom II X3 740 will be released in September.
