After all rumors, AMD announced last week that its upcoming generation of graphics cards will indeed be marketed as the Radeon HD 5800 series. The 3D-chips of the high-end models are codenamed Cypressl the Pro- and XT-versions will be branded respectively HD 5850 and HD 5870 (X2). Brightsideofnews claims that it knows the introduction prices of AMD's latest creations.

The flagship Radeon HD 5870 X2 card is to cost US $599. This will provide you with two RV780 chips on a single PCB and is by far the fastest DirectX 11 graphics card AMD has to offer for now. At about $200 less, there's the HD 5870. This card features a single RV870 graphics chip. The Radeon HD 5870 is to be priced between $379 and $399. Lastly, there's the HD 5850, which will feature a pricetag of between $279 and $299.

It's expected that the prices of the HD 5800 cards will become cheaper at a later time. There are two main reasons for this: the first being that chip manufacturer TSMC achieves excellent yields with the 40 nm GPU's, while the second is competitor nVidia's answer to the new cards; the GT300 chip.

AMD is to officially announce its Radeon HD 5800 series later this month. Worldwide availability of the card will take atleast another month after that.
