It's expected that ASUS will initially launch three Eee PC's with the new Windows 7 operating system. As of yet, most netbooks come with Windows XP or a Linux-based operating system, though this could change quickly with the coming of Windows 7. The new OS has lower requirements than Vista, allowing it to run more smoothly on the Intel Atom processor as well.

ASUS' three new models will be branded Eee PC 1005HA-M, 1005HA-P and 1201N and are to cost respectively $349, $399 and $499. The two 1005 machines feature a 10 inch screen and are equipped with the famous Atom platform, combined with an Intel 945GC chipset. Though both models will only sport 1 GB of memory, the hard disk capacity has been increased to 250 GB. The two netbooks come with a 6-cell battery and the price difference can be explained by the usage of a faster Atom N280 chip in the more expensive Eee PC 1005HA-P.

The Eee PC 1201N is an even more expensive netbook, equipped with a 12" screen and nViida's 9400M chipset. This chipset has a modern IGP, which is able to handle video acceleration and 3D games a lot better than the IGP of Intel's own chipset. The 1201N netbook also uses the Atom N270 processor, which has a clock frequency of 1,6 GHz. This model also has 1 GB of DDR2 memory, a 250 GB hard disk and the 6-cell battery.

The two netbooks with Intel's chipset will have the Windows 7 starter edition pre-isntalled, while the 12" model with nVidia Ion platform will be bundled with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Eee PC 1005HA-M will have Windows 7 Starter pre-installed
