Earlier this week, SilverStone officially introduced its Raven 2 chassis, already shown during the Computex 2009. The Raven 2 is a further-developed version of its predecessor and features numerous similarities, including the unique ability to mount the motherboard under a 90 degree rotation. The main difference is the decrease in size, weight and perhaps most important: price.

Due to its smaller size, the Raven 2 no longer supports motherboards of the Extended ATX form factor, but is still compatible with Full ATX boards in combination with a CrossFireX or SLI-configuration. The power supply compartment has been moved to the rear of the chassis, allowing three 180 mm fans to be placed on the bottom. The fans are to provide a powerful airflow whilst producing a modest 18 to 27 dB(A). On top of the case, there's room for another optional 120 mm fan.

The Raven 2 is made of 0,8 mm thick steel and sturdy plastic, both with a black finish. The standard edition comes with a clear side panel, but SilverStone will also release a model with a windowed panel. Internal, there's room for eight 5,25-inch devices, three of which can be converted to 3,5-inch bays. There's also room for SSD's and 2,5-inch devices. The case supports up to eight expansion cards and its front I/O houses two USB 2.0-connectors, as well as two audio jacks.

With dimensions of 212 x 503 x 643 mm and a 12,5 kilogram weight, the Raven 2 is significantly smaller and lighter than its predecessor. The same goes for the set recommended price, which is €140. To compare, the normal Raven chassis will set you back about €170.  SilverStone's Raven 2 is to be released before the end of August.
