Logitech has announced the Harmony 900, a new universal RF-remote that is to become the successor to the Harmony One. The manufacturer reports that the Harmony 900 features a fully redesigned radio frequent system, which will allow it to control up to 15 devices at a distance of up to 30 meters.
According to Logitech, only the 44 most essential buttons are physically present on the remote. These are divided into four different zones. There are also special ativity icons: for instance 'Watch TV', which makes the Harmony 900 switch on the television, the TV-tuner, AV-receiver and optional other devices, making sure that the right in/output signals are chosen. There's also a help button to resolve any issues.
It's unnecessary to place recceivers on the seperate devices: only one IR blaster an one or two mini blasters need to be present in the vicinity of the equipment. The Harmony 900's color display will then show a wizard setup to configure the devices that are to be controlled. This will require only the brands and model numbers of the devices to be entered: the required IR codes will then be pulled from Logitech's database, which contains the data of over 225.000 devices of 5.000 manufacturers.
Logitech's Harmony 900 will become available in mid-September, bearing a recommended pricetag of €399. The remote control comes with a charging dock, rechargable battery, power adaptor, IR blaster and two mini blasters. Logitech plans to release additional blaster and mini blaster packs seperately in the near future.
