For many years, VIA has been known for its efficient and economic solutions in the field of small computer systems and home servers. The company is also represented in industrial use, where high standards are put to the hardware. The latest addition is VIA's EPIA N700-10EW, a passively cooled mini-ITX motherboard with a 1 GHz VIA Eden ULV processor. The chipset on this board features a VX800 media processor that is compatible with DirectX 9 and video acceleration for MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV9 and VC1 formats.
The board is sized only 12 x 12 cm and features only the necessary connectors, such as a Gigabit LAN port, USB 2.0, VGA and a COM port. Though the COM port is rarely seen in the normal consumer market nowadays, it's still quite common in industrial applications. The board has a single SO-DIMM memory slots and two SATA connectors. There are also several headers present to allow for additional connectivity. VIA's new mini-ITX board is equipped with a mini-PCI slot, a CompactFlash I memory card slot and an IDE connector. The integrated 24 bits dual LVDS connector allows a small LCD screen to be attached directly to the motherboard.
VIA has thoroughly tested the EPIA N700-10EW for stability and guarantees that it stays operational in ambient temperatures of -20 up to 70 degrees Celsius. By using solid-cap capacitors, the board can run stable for years.
