Intel will release two new processor series in september; the Lynnfield for desktops, and the Clarksfield for notebooks. The Clarksfield has a lower clock frequency and TDP value that's more suitable for the cooling capacity of a notebook. The chips are however real quadcores, which will signficantly outperform the current Core 2 Quad Q9x00 series of notebook processors.
According to Fudzilla, Intel will initially launch three mobile Core i7 models, the Core i7 720QM, 820QM and the high-end 920XM. Like their desktop counterparts, these processors also have 8 MB of shared L3-cache, Hyperthreading technology and an integrated DDR3 memory controller. The clock frequencies for the Core i7 720QM and 820QM are respectively 1,6 and 1,73 GHz. The Turbo mode allows a single core in the chip to be overclocked to resp. 2,8 and 3,06 GHz.
The most expensive 920XM mobel will feature a 2 GHz frequency that can be increased to 3,2 GHz when in Turbo mode. With this agressive Turbo boost, the chips aren't just prepared for multi-threaded tasks, but also perform rather well in applications that only use a single core intensively. For notebook standards, the TDP is somewhat high, but certainly not out of proportion. The Core i7 720QM and 820QM require 45 Watt, while the 920XM consumes about 55 Watt.
The pricetags for Intel's upcoming Core i7 notebook processors are specified at $364, $546 and $1.054 for respectively the 720QM, the 820QM and 920XM.

The first notebook Core i7's are to be released by the end of September
