On the Chinese forum PC Online, an Intel roadmap has surfaced showing information on the processors that are to be expected until late 2010. The roadmap confirms the coming of three Lynnfield socket LGA1156 processors; the Core i7 870 and 860, as well as the Core i5 750. The Core i7 will remain existant for socket LGA1366, but will no longer be positioned in the high-end segment. It'll be replaced by the more expensive Core i7 950 and later the 960, while the absolute top model will be the 3,33 GHz Core i7 975 XE.
Surprising is the introduction date of the hexacore Gulftown chip, a 32nm Nehalem-based processor, According to the leaked roadmap, this chip will not be released until Q2 of 2010, while earlier reports spoke of a 2009 introduction.
2010 will also herald the ending of the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad era; the Clarkdale family with integrated videochip is to start serving the mid-segment by then. These are also 32nm processors and will be available in clock frequencies of between 3,2 and 3,46 GHz. The Clarkdale processors will feature a more agressive Turbo mode, which allows a single core to be overclocked to 3,46 GHz on the entry models, or 3,73 for the top model.
It's clear that Intel's entire mainstream segment is to revolve around the P55 chipset, while the X58 chipset will hold its top position with the fastest Core i7 processors.
