Gigabyte has announced a number of new motherboards for AMD's new 785G chipset. The manufacturer introduces a stunning eight motherboards; four DDR2 and another four DDR3 boards. AMD's 785G chipset is produced at 55nm and has an integrated HD4200 videochip. This chip supports DirectX 10.1 and is also compatible with features as UVD2 video acceleration and Hybrid Crossfire.
It's remarkable that six out of the eight boards use a Micro-ATX form factor, making them suitable for more compact systems, as well as HTPC's. All motherboards are obviously equipped with an AM3 socket, the models with DDR3 memory slots will not be able to function properly when used with older AM2+ processors. Gigabyte claims that the DDR3 models will support up to 1800 MHz, while the DDR2 boards will work with memory of up to 1200 MHz.
Gigabyte's entire line-up of 785G motherboards is created conforming the Ultra Durable 3 philosophy; this means that high-quality components and thicker copper lanes have been used for the PCB. All boards feature Gigabit LAN, 7.1 Realtek ALC889 audio and a FireWire connector. The two ATX motherboards (GA-MA785GT-UD3H and GA-MA785G-UD3H) feature two PCI-Express 16x slots, making Crossfire possible. All models are also equipped with two regular PCI slots, allowing for plenty of expandability.
