Earlier today, Hynix introduced a 4 GB DDR SDRAM module to be used in Intel's Moorestown platform. This platform lies at the foundation of small mobile devices, developed for internet applications. The module has twice the data density as the current memory modules and has a maximum speed of 400 Mbit/s, which allows 1,6 GB of data to be processed each second by means of a 32-bit I/O memory interface. The chips can be used in a so-called 'Multi Chip Package'  or in a 'Package on Package'.

This makes the chip a perfect addition to compact devices such as netbooks and smartphones. Hynix expects to start mass production of the chips later this quarter. It's possible that the first products using it will be launched before the end of this year.
