Sony will release new e-book readers soon. These portable devices are able to display PDF-, BBeB- and EPUB-files, both unsecured and with Adobe or PRS DRM. Also compatible with the readers are RTF and DOC text documents.
The PRS300-RC weighs 220 grams and has a 5-inch screen with an 800 x 600 pixel resolution. The so-called E-Ink screen has eight gray-tints. The PRS300-RC is equipped with a USB 2.0 connector and 512 MB of internal memory, enough for about 350 books. Sony claims the Li-ion battery is able to provide enough power for up to two weeks of reading time. The device, sized 157 x 107 x 51 mm will become available in the colors silver and pink.
Sony's PRS600-SC has a larger 6-inch screen that also works as a touchscreen. The device includes a stylus which allows notes to be placed in the books. This model also uses an E-Ink screen, has the USB 2.0-connector, 512 MB of memory and a 2-week reading time Li-ion battery. Apart from the aforementioned filetypes, this version also plays MP3, AAC, JPEG, PNG, GIF and BMP media files. Also integrated is the Oxford American English dictionary. The PRS600-SC weighs 286 grams, is sized 175 x 122 x 102 mm and will be released in both a red and a silver edition.
