Corsair launches the Extreme Series, a new line of solid state drives for the most demanding users. These SSD's are based on Indilinx' fast Barefoot controller and feature 64 MB of writing cache. Corsair will release the drives in three versions: the X32, X64 and X128. Obviously, the name's number indicates the storage capacity on gigabytes.

The Extreme Series SSD's are of the 2,5" format and use Samsung MLC memory chips. Thanks to their SATA 3 Gbps interface, these storage wonders are ablet o reach speeds of up to 240 MB/s for reading and 170 MB/s writing data. According to Corsair, these new SSD's are perfectly suited for application in both desktops and notebooks due to their all-round performance.

Like all Indilinx Barefoot-based SSD's, the firmware of these Corsair models can be updated easily. It is possible that support for the TRIM command will be added later on. This is to ensure that the SSD's will maintain their speed even when assigned to larger tasks. Corsair claims that the firmware of these SSD's can be updated without worrying about data loss, making it even more interesting to keep the drives updated. The Corsair X32, X64 and X128 SSD's should be available at the time of writing and are bundled with two years of warranty.
