Hitachi has introduced a new 2 TB hard disk. This makes it the third (after Western Digital and Seagate) manufacturer to introduce a hard disk with a 2 TB capacity. This new model will be branded Deskstar 2TB HD32000IDK7 and is a 7200 RPM disk. The HDD is equipped with 32 MB of cache memory and features a SATA 3 Gbps connector. It's still unknown how many platters will be present in the disk, but it's most likely to be four 500 GB ones. JR.com's description states that this disk is the most efficient in its class, which means a reduced heat production as well.
Hitachi's 2TB HD32000IDK7 harddisk has an integrated anti-impact protection and will cost about $270 USD. This price is certain to drop when additional manufacturers release 2 TB harddisks. During the Computex earlier this year, Hitachi already reported that they are expecting to release harddisks with 750 GB platters later this year. This could mean that 3 TB (four 750 GB platters) disks could be introduced soon as well.
