After reports during the Computex, earlier this year, it still seems that ASUS is going to be the first motherboard manufacturer to introduce USB 3.0 connectors. Engadget has now released several images of this first official USB 3.0 motherboard, which'll be branded the P6X58.
THe USB 3.0 connectors are powered by a NEC PD720200 controller, which should theoretically allow transfer speeds of up to 5 Gb/s. This controller is backwards compatible with the USB 2.0 and 1.1 standards.
The rest of the P6X58 Premium is as we've come to expect of ASUS. Apart from two USB 3.0 and four standard USB 2.0 ports, there are also two Gigabit Ethernet connectors on the rear. The board is compatible with Core i7 processors, has six DDR3 memory slots, three PCI-Express x16 2.0 slots and a number of standard features. Pricing and a release date have not yet been mentioned.
