Now that the launch of ATI's Radeon HD4800 series is nearing, the amount of rumors seems to be infinite. Recently, there were reports on possible technical details like the amount of shaders on the RV770 chip, but there were also rumors about prices, launch dates and benchmarks. A few slides have appeared that show the performance of the HD4800 line-up, compared to nVidia's 9800 GTX and 8800 GT.

The results show that the HD4870 clears the 9800GTX, pumping out an average 40% more frames per second in recent games. According to these statistics, the HD4850 does a nice job as well, beating the 8800GT with almost 30%. The tests were run at a 1900x1200 resolution with 4x AA and 8x AF. Though it's claimed that these results come from AMD, it is still uncertain whether these statistics are reliable.
