Panasonic has announced that the DMR-BW500 Blu-ray recorder will be available in the Australian shops soon. This means that the device is the first of it's kind available outside of Japan.
The DMR-BW500 features a 500GB hard disk which can record up to 72 hours 1080p HD video from the twin DVB-T HD tuner. The recorder can also handle burned Blu-Ray discs: a dual-layer disc would fit up to 6 hours and 40 minutes of 1080p material. The recorder also supports lossless recording of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
It isn't known yet whether the DMR-BW500 will be available in the rest of the world soon. In Australia the device costs AUS$ 2300, which is approximately $2160 USD.
