Philips has announced that it'll show a new 22-inch 3D monitor on the upcoming InfoComm convention, an event that will take start on the 18th and last till the 20th of June. The screen is based on a WSXGA LCD panel, supporting a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 pixels. New is the WOWvx technology, which would allow the creation of 3D images without requiring special 3D glasses, like Zalman's 3D monitor does.
Philips reports that the development can be used for TV, gaming and mecial science. WOWvx uses special lenses that project a different image to the left and right eye. The two seperate images are then converted in the brain into a single modified vision that creates the 3D-effect. The screen also contains a processor that calculates up ro nine different viewing angles, allowing the consumer to watch from every possible angle. The screen has a 16:10 aspect-ratio, 300cd/m2 brightness, a contrastratio of 1000:1 and a 5ms response time. The new 3D monitor will be available in the third quarter of 2008, prices are still uknown.
