[Computex08] MSI shows functioning DrMOS
One of the most important features of MSI's upcoming P45 motherboard is the usage of so-called DrMOS chips. This name is short for Driver-MOSFET and is in fact a single chip that has integrated all required components to provide power to a CPU. According to MSI that integration will make for a lower power consumption than the normal poewr solutions around the CPU-socket. To show that the board is more efficient, MSI showed a setup on its stand with a MSI P45 board and a similar A-brand P45 motherboard. Both using the same processor and kept at 100% load with a benchmark utility. In both cases, a temperature indicator was placed beneath the cooling block on the back of the CPU socket. The results were promising; MSI's board turned out 15.7 degrees cooler.
Though certain convention tests are always a bit shady, this certainly shows potential. MSI's P45 boards will be thoroughly tested in our own lab soon as well.
