ATI has delayed the launch of its Radeon HD 4800 series by a few days. The Raden HD 4850 was to be released the 18th of June, but will now become available on the 23d of June, together with the faster Radeon HD 4870.

The Radeon HD 4850 will have 512 MB GDDR3 memory, the HD 4870 will be equipped with the new GDDR5 memory. The cards have been in production with ATI's partners for a while already, making it possible to deliver them almost instantly. It seems the reason for the delay is that ATI wants to have a better availability of the Radeon HD 4800 series at the launch.

The first retail version of the HD 4850 has already been spotted, in the form of Gigabyte's card. It looks a lot like it's predecessor, the Radeon HD 3850.

ATI's main competitor, nVidia, will release its new GeForce GTX 200 series the 17th of June.
