OCZ has announced a DIY notebook in which a few components, such as the motherboard, screen, and case, are the only stock parts, leaving the other parts to the consumer's choice. Though this concept already exists in the desktop world in the form of a barebone, normally you would order all the additional parts from the same distributor, which is not the case with OCZ's barebone laptop.
The barebone is built around Intel's PM965 chipset with the ICH8M southbridge and has an nVidia 8600M videochip with 512MB DDR2 memory onboard. The screen is sized 15.4" and has a glossy finish. There's also a DVD+/-RW como drive built into the barebone. To make things easier, OCZ has released a list of compatible parts, containing the latest Core 2 Duo T9500, as well as OCZ's DDR2-667 memory, their solid state drives and Intel's usual WLAN cards.
The external connectors that are placed on the notebook are: Gigabit LAN, D-Sub, 4x USB 2.0, mini FireWire and S-Video.
