Google has placed an order at Intel for SSD's. The company wants to switch some of it's servers to Solid State Drives, reducing energy consumption.
The new energy efficient SSD's will be installed in a number of servers in Google's head office in the US, The flash memory chips will come from Intel, the matching controllers from Marvell. The delivery will take place in the end of Q2 this year.
According to the manufacturers the increasing demand of flash memory chips for server applications could create a shortage of 16 and 32GB chips.
