Market investigator Jon Peddie Research (JPR) has released the sales figures of 3D-chips throughout the first quarter of 2008. Compared to the last quarter there haven't been much changes. JPR has made corrections to the records of Q4 2007 though. Remarkably, the bigged change in market share isn't by any of the big names, but by manufacturer VIA.
| Manufacturer | Market share Q4 2007 | Market share Q1 2008 | Growth in Q1 2008 |
| Intel | 43.5% | 42.7% | -0.8% |
| nVidia | 33.6% | 32.7% | -0.9% |
| AMD/ATI | 18.3% | 18.6% | 0.3% |
| VIA | 2.5% | 4.1% | 1.6% |
| Other | 2.1% | 1.9% | -0.2% |
| Total | 100% | 100% |
The market as a whole sold 94.88 Million 3D-chips in the first quarter of 2008, compared to 100.5 million in the last quarter of 2007. However, the sales of 2007's first quarter were 78.8 million units, meaning that there has been a significant increase compared to last year. It is expected that the market shares will be unaffected in the second quarter, because there haven't been any major releases. Graphics cards like the GeForce 9800GTX and the Radeon HD 3870 X2 are only a very small part of the graphic chip market, too small to influence the market shares.
