Last week LaCie introduced a 500GB Rugged Hard Disk, increasing the capacity by 180GB compared to it's previous model. The Rugged Hard Disk is designed by Neil Poulton and has a scratch resistant aluminum casing, and a shockproof rubber border.

The Rugged Hard Disk is equipped with a Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.  The disk can be connected through USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800, and gets it´s power from these connections as well.

LaCie has increased the Rugged Hard Disk capacity to 500GB

This Rugged version is preconfigured with LaCie´s Setup Assistant. This is a function that formats the hard disk to be compatible with the chosen operating system (Mac, Windows, or combined platforms'. It also automatically transfers a user´s manual to the computer. Also preconfigured on the disk is the ´1-Click' Backup software for pc, and the SilverKeeper software for the Macintosh.

LaCie also introduces a set of three protective sleeves, exclusively designed for the Rugger Hard Disk, and is available in gray green, blue grey and black. The recommended price for these sleeves is 29 euro.

The LaCie Rugged 500GB version can be ordered directly from LaCie or through the specialised dealernetwork. The recommended price is is 279 euro for the USB 2.0 version and 339 euro for the model with USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800.
