The latest generation of SSD disks have already proven to best the old fashioned hard disks in almost all ways. However, they have two big disadvantages: a small storage capacity, and a much higher price per gigabyte compared to a hard disk. The storage capacity however is under development because 64GB drives are already available and within a short period of time 128GB models will apear as well.
Toshiba expects to make another step in the SSD's storage capacity in 2009. Using the 43nm process it should become possible to put 256GB of memory chips in the compact 2,5" drives. When later in 2009 the industry starts creating the drives with a production process smaller than 40nm it should become possible to place 512 GB on these SSD's.
