The brand ELSA, a Chinese retailer of nVidia graphics card, has released information about the successors of the GTX 260 and 280 during a press conference. ELSA's roadmap shows that the GTX 260 will be followed up by a 55nm "GT206", while for the GTX 280 a new "GT212" is planned. The latter should become available in the first quarter of 2009 and will obviously perform better than the current GTX 2x0 line of graphics cards.

Remarkable is that the sucessor of the GTX 280, the GT212, isn't made on 55nm but on either a 45 or even a 40nm process. It's impossible to determine which of the two it will be on the picture, but a transit to 40 nm would be the most probable.

If this data is correct, it means that nVidia will be the first to introduce a 40nm videochip. By shrinking the production process the costs will decrease and so will the heat production. This can provide more room for higher clockspeeds, thus resulting in faster graphics cards.
