Sony reports that the VAIO notebooks will not be retrieved, instead the company offers the possibility to have the user's VAIO TZ notebook inspected without charge. Due to a possible error in the cabling, the notebooks have been reported overheating. The problem concerns various models from the VAIO TZ-serie sold between May 2007 and July 2008. Worldwide, approximately 200 notebooks have been found erroneous. In Japan, there have been reports of people suffering from minor burns. The concerned notebooks have serial numbers starting with 'VGN TZ1'. 'VGN TZ2' and some versions starting with 'VGN TZ3'.

Consumers can apply for inspection (and possible repairs) without charge on the VAIO-site.
