Microsoft recently announced a so-called 'Feature Pack', namely the Windows Feature Pack for Storage 1.0. The Feature Pack is to improve support and drivers for Blu-Ray media and smart cards for Windows XP, as well as Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Server 2008.
By releasing the Feature Pack, Microsoft provides users of Windows new functionality, so that they will not have to wait for the next version of the operating system. The Feature Pack for Storage 1.0
- Active Storage Platform. This platform allows Windows to limite the access to wireless storage devices (i.e USB flashdrives) by using a certificate or password conforming the IEEE 1667 standard.
- Image Mastering API update. This update makes it possible for Windows to write "master-style" to Blu-Ray media.
- Smart card driver.
This driver offers support to new formats such as Chip/Smart Card
Interface Devices (ICCD) and Integrated Circuit(s) Card Devices (CCID).
It is likely that additional information conforming the launch of the Windows Feature Pack for Storage 1.0 will be available soon on the Microsoft Connect website.
