After Taiwanese manufacturer Silicon-Power announced a 2.5" SATA II Solid State Disk (SSD) last month, the company now introduces a line of 1.8" SSD's with a capacity of 8 GB up to 64 GB. With this, Silicon-Power claims the world's smallest hard disk using a Micro SATA-connector. SATA I and SATA II are also supported. The 1.8" SSD is meant for use in small laptops.

The SSD is sized 78.2 x 54 x 5 mm and weighs 30 grams. The topmodel would have a reading speed of up to 160 MByte/sec and a writing speed of up to 90 MByte/sec. Silicon-Power reports that the disk has no problems with shocks of up to 1500 G and constant vibration. The SSD also features an Error-correcting Code (ECC) functionality.
Pricing and availability is still unknown.
