ASUS and Gigabyte have recently presented their new motherboards based on Intel's upcoming X58 chipset. ASUS announced the P6T Deluxe motherboard, while Gigabyte showed the GA-X58-Extreme, which with some modifications, will later be called the GA-X58-DS4.

Both motherboards support Intel's Core i7 processors in socket 1366

Both motherboards will support Intel's new generation of Nehalem processors, also known as Core i7, with socket 1366. The X58 northbridge is linked to an ICH10R southbridge. The motherboards have six DDR3 memory slots and will support triple channel memory configurations.

The new ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard

The new ASUS X58 motherboard has three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, six SATA II ports, two Serial Attached SCSI ports (SAS) a PATA connector, and support for eSATA. There's also two Gbit LAN connectors and 7.1 audio.

Gigabyte's GA-X58-Extreme features four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, six SATA II ports, a PATA one, FireWire, eigh USB-ports and two Gbit LAN connectors, as well as the 7.1 audio. The northbridge of this motherboard is equipped with a combination of passive aircooling and watercooling.

It's expected that both motherboards will be released when the first Intel Core i7 processors arrive.
