Now that the first shipment HD4870 card has found its way to the consumer and the availability is improving, the different brands are trying to find new ways to seperate their cards from the competitor's. HD4870 cards with extra memory have been announced and even models with special coolers and enhanced PCB's.
Palit too wishes to seperate its card from the mass and makes an attempt at that with the Radeon HD 4870 'Sonic Dual' Edition, featuring a double BIOS and an extra large cooler with two fans. Palit has also added a fourth phase to the power, ensuring a more stable power provision during overclocks. Remarkable is that the card not only has the two usual DVI connectors, but also a DisplayPort output. This makes the card suited for the latest monitors as well.

A small switch on the card's rear allows switching between the reference speed BIOS (750 MHz core and 3600MHz GDDR5) and the overclocked BIOS profile. The overclocked one increases the card's speeds to 775MHz for the core and an effective 4 GHz for the GDDR5 memory. The cooling features three heatpipe, displacing the heat directly from the core to the rest of the cooling block.
The card supports DirectX 10.1, UVD2, PCI-Express 2.0 and Powerplay. It is expected that Palit's dual BIOS HD4870 will become available before the end of the month.
