Earlier on it was announced that AMD is working on an Atom competitor, based ont he K8-architecture. AMD has introduced a new processor based on this architecture, the AMD Athlon 64 2000+.
The AMD64 2000+ is based on the Lima core with a G0 stepping and runs at 1 GHz. The processor features 512 KB L2 cache and is suited for the AM2-platform. The HyperTransport bus has a speed of 1 GHz (or 2 GT/sec). With a maximum power consumption (TDP) of 8 Watt the processor would drain almost twice as much power as Intel's Atom.

The exact price isn't known yet, but it's rumored to be somewhere about US $90,-. When the processor will become available isn't hasn't been disclosed yet either.
