The amount of devices with HDMI and/or DisplayPort in 2007 up to 2012 (in quantities of 1000)

In absolute numbers, HDMI will still rule the market, having a prediced 773 million HDMI devices by 2012. The amount of DisplayPort devices is estimated at 263 million in 2012.

An interesting development is the type of devices using HDMI and/or DisplayPort. iSuppli expects that HDMI will limit itself to consumer electronics, mostly LCD TV's. DisplayPort may take the lead from HDMI in the area's of PC monitors, desktop PC's and notebooks. PC manufacturers are searching a replacement for the analog VGA (D-sub) interface, a thing DisplayPort would be perfectly suited for. Many big names support DisplayPort, under which Intel, AMD, Dell, HP and Samsung.
