Last tuesday, nVidia silently introduced the GeForce 9800GT, which is pretty much a revised GeForce 8800 GT with a new BIOS. It's still the same 65nm G92 videochip featuring 112 shader units. The 'new' 9800GT is with it's 600MHz corespeed and shaders clocked at 1500 MHz, identical to the speeds of an 8800GT, making it possible for nVidia to turn their old supply of cards to 9800GT's with relative ease.

The different brands do their best to make the card interesting, for instance by adding a different cooler to the card or by overclocking it. Sparkle recently announced a passively cooled 9800GT, featuring four heatpipes and aluminum cooling fins.

Aluminum cooling blocks have also been placed on the memory chips and power, making it possible for the card to have decent temperatures even when the airflow is less than nominal. The card should be available soon at a still undisclosed price.
