In January, rumors appeared that DirectX 11 would be launched somewhere in 2009. According to Fudzilla, Microsoft will release details on DirectX 11 in about two weeks. Fudzilla's sources ahve also confirmed that Microsoft will officially announce its plans for DirectX 11 during the Gamefest 2008 on the 22nd and 23d of July.
There are several rumors about DirectX 11, such as tesselation/displacement, multithreaded rendering, compute shaders and shader model 5.0. Nothing is said on ray-tracing however, though Intel has been working on this a lot with its upcoming Larrabee GPU.
The question whether nVidia will invest in DirectX 10.1 seems to be answered with this. Fudzilla reports that they expect nVidia to adopt DirectX 11 immediately. They also claim that nVidia will release more details on DirectX 11 during the nVision event, in the end of August.
