Fudzilla reports that Intel's Larrabee architecture will feature modern GDDR5 memory, this to be able to offer enough bandwidth to the multi-core chip of Intel's graphics card. It's still unclear which memory bus the card will have but a 256 or 512-bit is expected. In the first case, the Larrabee could be in between the HD4870 and the GTX280, based on the memory bandwidth.
Intel thinks that the Larrabee will achieve about 2 Teraflops of calculation power, but it's uncertain whether that's enough to convince the market. For little over $300 US Dollar you are already breaking the 1.2 Teraflops with the HD4870 graphics card, while the still unreleased HD4870 X2 card will easily clear the 2 Teraflop. It's likely that a new generation of ATI and nVidia cards will already be released by the time the Larrabee goes live.
It's questionable whether the Larrabee will be as interesting for parallel calculations on introduction still, however, since not every detail is known yet, we are unable to draw a conclusion.
