OCZ enters notebook market with DIY model
OCZ enters the notebook market with its latest OCZ DIY 15" Gaming Notebook, based on Intel's Centrino platform. The laptop has a glossy 15.4" WXGA+ widescreen with a resolution of 1440x900 pixels. The base of the configuration is a modern Intel PM965 chipset and an ICH8M southbridge. This makes the notebook suited for all mobile processors with an FSB up to 800MHz, which includes the latest Penryn-based dual cores. The integrated GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards with 512MB of video memory makes it possible to play most games just fine. There's room for up to 4GB of DDR2-668 memory modules.
The laptop features a cardreader, Expresscard 5/4 slot, VGA output and four USB 2.0 ports. There's also a Gigabit LAN connector present and an optional TV card can be added as well. Strangely, features like Bluetooth 2.0 and WLAN (802.11n) are also optional. The notebook has an integrated 2 megapixel webcam and a fingerprint scanner.
It's quite heavy, with a total weight of 3.5 kg, that however includes the big 9-cell battery. The system comes without a processor, memory, harddisk and operating system, allowing the customer to pick these himself. The notebook is able to handle all standard 2.5 inch disks as well as SSD's with a SATA connector. The complete list of specifications can be found here.
