Both Reg Hardware and Daily Tech report another change in the AMD - ATI setup. Daily Tech has received information about an upcoming namechange in the ATI Radeon Xpress chipsets. The CrossFire Xpress 1600 and 3200 at the moment still carry the ATI brand, but according to the newest road maps seen by Daily Tech this will soon change.
The ATI CrossFire Xpress 1600 chipset will be renamed to AMD 480X CrossFire, as it is based on the RD480 chipset. The ATI CrossFire Xpress 3200 chipset will be called AMD 580X CrossFire. Other than the name nothing else changes on the chipsets, the 480X will still support two x8 PCI-Express slots, the 580X CrossFire supports two full speed (x16) PCI-Express slots.
Soon to be renamed to AMD chipset
It is not clear yet when we will see these chipsets with the new AMD brand, however it is expected to change in the near future.
