DailyTech has managed to get hold of a sample of ATI's upcoming X1950 Pro card, which should be appearing in stores at the end of this month. The chip on the card is the RV570, a stripped down version of the R580 produced on 80nm. The Sample DailyTech received was clocked on 575MHz and has 256MB of GDDR memory clocked at 686 MHz, and sports 36 pixel pipelines and 12 vertex shaders.
One of the new features on the card is an internal CrossFire connector, which would indicate that there is no need for a master card when using a CrossFire setup with these cards. Connectors for a CrossFire setup are included with the card. The X1950 Pro only has a single slot cooler, where the other X1950 cards have a dual slot cooler. Prices are expected to be slightly lower than the recently introduced x1900XT cards with 256MB memory.
When testing the card it came in just below the performance of the X1900XT 256MB, but because of the smalle production process the power consumption of the card was quite a bit lower than that of the X1950XTX and the X1900XT. The full suite of Benchamrks run can be viewed at the DailyTech website . Expected prices of the cards are around $229 to S249, where the X1900XT is in the shops for around $279.
One of the biggest advantages of the card will be the fact that you do not need a special master card to use two of these in a CrossFire setup, making this a lot more accessable for users.
