nVidia nForce 680 SLI in November
Although we still haven't seen a single nForce 590 SLI based Intel mainboard in the wild, nVidia is already planning a successor. One of our sources told us that we can expect Intel mainboards with a nForce 680 SLI chipset as early as november. The launch date would be in line with nVidia's upcoming GeForce 8 series video cards, based on the G80 chips. Most of the specs of the nForce 680 SLI are still unknown. Our sources told us the chipset will support 48 PCI-Express lanes, which could mean that nVidia is aiming at mainboards with three PCI-Express x16 slots, possibly two for video cards in SLI and one for an extra video card for Physics.

Sources? Please forgive my skepticism. Could you possibly provide an official i.e. nVidia link?

I saw that article, but would hardly consider it an official nVidia link. I have seen several articles about the "new" chipset, but I take it all with a grain of salt. After all, look what happened with the nForce590 SLI IE. Anyway, I truly hope that nVidia gets it together as I have been holding off on buying a new mobo and C2D until I can get SLI support (hopefully nVidia with have the new 8800 series GPUs ready around the same time).
