With the introduction of the internal Blu-ray burner SH-B022A and the external Blu-ray burner, the SE-B026A, Samsung has made it possible to burn 50 GB of information on dual layer Blu-ray discs.
Both these drives are Backward compatible allowing you to continue to use DVD's and CD's.

Both the internal and external Blu-ray burners are capable of burning both single layer (25 GB) and dual layer (50 GB) discs, an increase of 625% over the storage capacity of the older DVD format. Read and write speeds of the Blu-ray burners are also faster than those of DVD burners.

The Burn speed of the internal Samsung SH-B022A drive is 40X with DVD discs, whereas the burn speed of the external Samsung SE-B026A is 32X. Through the use of the advanced Blu-ray Disc-laser it is now possible to record more than two hours worth of HDTV quality video and more than 13 hours worth of standard TV. Through the use of Dual layer discs 50 GB of storage capacity is now feasible.

Backwards compatibility basically means that Samsung have turned the violet blue laser into a three diode laser. This technology in combination with the various lens system implemented by Samsung means that the drives are capable of not only playing Blu-ray discs but also CD's and DVD's.

The Samsung SH-B022A and SE-B026A should be available around march 2007 with an estimated price range of anything between 500 and 1,000 dollars.
