[IDF] New 'Santa Rosa' Centrino platform brings better performance

In the first half of next year, Intel will introduce their next generation Centrino platform, codenamed Santa Rosa. The new platform is built around the current Core 2 Duo mobile processor, but will feature some very neat new technologies. First of all upcoming Santa Rosa laptops will use the new Intel 965GM chipset with integrated Vista Aero compatible graphics. The new laptops will include an amount of NAND flash memory that will be used as a buffer for the hard drive. This technology called Robson will result in faster application load times and faster hibernation: Intel promises a 2x performance increase in these situations. The wireless LAN controller that's part of the Santa Rosa platform will be compatible with 802.11n, offering a theoretical throughput of 300 Mbps, more than five times the speed of 802.11g.

In 2008 again we can expect a new mobile platform, this time featuring integrated support for WiMax.
