Paul Ottelini, Intels CEO, today confirmed in his IDF opening keynote that the first quad-core processor will be launched in november. The first Kentsfield will be part of the Core 2 Extreme processor series and will be targeted at gamers and enthusiasts. In the first quarter of 2007 Intel will launch some mainstream quad-core processors named Core 2 Quad.

Defenitely worth mentioning is that Ottelini told his audience that Intel had sold more than 5 million Core 2 Duo processors since the launch two months ago. No other processor in the history of Intel proved to be so succesfull in its first two months on the market.
