New Dell Notebooks, Desktops and Widescreen Flat-Panel Monitors
On June 26, 2007, Dell updated its Inspiron and XPS product portfolios with notebooks and desktops. Dell also introduced new 19- and 24-inch widescreen flat-panel displays, as well as Dell Online Backup, a service that provides 12 months of complimentary online storage space for every Inspiron (up to 3GB) and XPS product (up to 10GB).
Inspiron notebooks
Priced from $749, the new Inspiron notebooks offer three widescreen display choices (14, 15.4 and 17 inch), and eight colors such as Ruby Red, Midnight Blue, or Spring Green. Dell claims it is the first to incorporate optional built-in mobile broadband capability across its entire new line of consumer Inspiron notebook portfolio, with carrier choices including AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless in the U.S., and Vodafone in select countries in Europe. Other options for all systems are integrated webcams and for select systems Blu-ray Disc drives.
The Inspiron 1420, 1520 and 1720 notebooks feature Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and the Inspiron 1521 and 1721 feature AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processors. Full features:
- Choice of colors including Jet Black matte finish, Alpine White gloss finish, Espresso Brown, Flamingo Pink, Midnight Blue, Ruby Red, Spring Green, Sunshine Yellow with soft touch finish
- Choice of high definition displays, including screen resolution and finishes, like TrueLife or non-glare
- Choice of hard drive sizes up to 250GB; RAID 0,1 support (Inspiron 1721 only)
- Optional integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam with dual digital microphone and noise-cancellation earbuds
- Optional Blu-ray Disc drive (Inspiron 1420, 1520, 1720 only)
- Optional 9-cell lithium-ion battery
- Standard 802.11g Wi-fi networking, or optional 802.11a/g or 802.11 Wireless-N
- Standard integrated 8-in-1 media card reader to enable easy transfer of content from digital devices. Other ports include four USB ports, and IEEE 1394
- Choice of Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic or Home Premium or Ubuntu Linux distribution (Inspiron 1420 only)

Inspiron desktops
Inspiron desktops come in several tower sizes. The mini-tower supports expandability, while the slim-tower is 41 percent smaller in size, but shouldn't compromise on performance. Starting at $349, all can be configured with a wide variety of technologies, like robust graphics, widescreen displays, TV tuner cards and sound systems that can easily take on challenging digital entertainment and gaming activities.
Inspiron support up to 500GB of hard drive space and can be configured with Dell DataSafe Backup Internal, which provides an automatic local backup of everything on the hard drive. The Inspiron 530 and 530s desktops feature Celeron to Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and the Inspiron 531 and 531s feature AMD Sempron to Athlon 64 X2 dual core processors. More features and options:
