Among the existing choices of configuration, Apple has recently started offering buyers of its Mac Pro two additional choices : quad cores or eight cores. The first choice results in a machine built with two dual-core Xeon 'Woodcrest' processors, the latter will contain two quad-core Xeon 'Clovertown' processors.

According to Intel the production of its 3 GHz variant of the Clovertown chip is very limited. This is also indicated by the fact that Apple builds Woodcrest processors instead of the Clovertown in its new Xserve servers, as shown in our Dutch article . Nevertheless, Apple promises to deliver its eight-core machine within a maximum of seven days, depending on the rest of the components that can be chosen by its customers. As you might expect, this exclusivity does not come cheap. The simplest Mac Pro composition based on two Clovertowns will cost over € 3300.
