As expected and rumored for several weeks AMD has released a new Black Edition CPU, a more overclocking-friendly version of one of its desktop processor. The quad-core chosen to go black is the Phenom 9600 and it seems that the 'new' part is now finally released. Still clocked at 2.3 GHz and with the same specs as the regular 9600 the BE CPU has an unlocked multiplier that will offer overclockers a big plus. Coupled with the OverDrive software the new Phenom 9600 BE is expected to reach quite some interesting (read high) frequencies but keep in mind the B2 revision is still the one used. The new Black Edition processors has already been put up on AMD's site and pulled down (twice) but it seems that its price tag will be equal to that of the 'simple' 9600 - $283, and this without the expected price cut. More should be revealed soon.
