Type /Qdownload in your web browser and the TurboStation is able to take over downloading Torrents from your PC. Your computer no longer needs to be on and will not be slowed down because of download processes. Also this device is a lot more economical with energy than an ordinary PC.

When idle the TS-101 uses approximately 17 Watt, when active 21 Watt (measured with the 500 GB Hitachi hard disk). The overall performance turned out to be a bit disappointing: with IOzone and the use of a ASUS gigabit switch the average throughput for writing to the disk scored 8704 KB/s, reading 10501 KB/s. Repeating the same test on the 100 Mbit ports of a Linksys router provides us a 6432 KB/s writing and 7820 KB/s reading score. The NAS contains no active fan and because the aluminium housing takes care of the heat dispension the device turned out to be extremely silent.

Conclusion

The QNAP Turbo Station TS-101 is a true multifunctional product. Ideal for people who want to start using their network more intensively. The device offers an enormous amount of features, getting to know the device therefore already turns out to be a true discovery travel. The only thing this drive is missing is a wireless router. Adding on this functionality would make this product an ideal entry port to the network.
